PHOTOGRAPHER THINGS TO KNOW

WELCOME!

Welcome to our FREE GROUP SHOOT! Please keep this handy for future reference. Hopefully it will help you prepare for the shoot and make you aware of the shoot process and expectations.

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • The group shoot is an organized TFP/TFCD shoot. As such, model releases are NOT required and shouldn’t be signed. All photos taken at these shoots can be used by the photographer and/or the model for self-promotion only and nothing else.
  • Photographers and models of all skill levels may participate. We offer a friendly, nurturing environment for both photographers and models to gain experience and grow.
  • The number of models invited to the group shoot depends upon the number of photographers who sign up to attend. If you sign up for a shoot but later determine that you are unable to attend, please let the Group Shoot Committee know as far in advance as possible.
  • Most communication between the Photographers, the Models, and the Group Shoot Committee is done via threads and or private message on the Texas Models and Talent Forum. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the layout of the various sections and categories.
  • The monthly group shoots are held in a variety of locations. Facilities at each location vary, so always ask up front if you have specific needs (such as electricity or special permits).
  • Group shoots usually last about 3 hours. Photographers may meet prior to the shoot and/or some often gather for lunch afterwards. These are not required, but are ways to network.

 

 

BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATING

  • All participating photographers get FREE publicity on a rotating banner displayed at the top of each Forum page for 60 days! Your banner should display your work, but more importantly it should provide insight into what you do (wedding, senior portraits, family portraits, etc). Submit your banner in .jpg format, 582px x 96px —of that, 2px frame must be the same tone light blue (you can sample it) as is on the forum at the top currently. The banner should be 72 dpi.   • Try out new lenses or lighting equipment in a relaxed atmosphere to perfect your techniques.
  • Practice working with a variety of models.
  • Introduction to a licensed agency and to professional working models and actors.
  • A chance to network with other photographers.
  • A chance to market yourself at shoots with business cards or handouts. It's also a great way to point people to your website and advertise your other services.

 

 

THE BIG DAY

  • If the weather is questionable, check the forum or your private messages for shoot updates or cancellations.
  • Shoot locations vary and often there is not a restaurant or vending machines nearby, so please bring drinks and/or snacks, if desired.
  • If you are running late or have an emergency, please call 512.826.5394.
  • Check in with the Group Shoot Committee (the person with the clipboard). The GSC member will be able to tell you which models are available and answer any questions you may have.

 

 

DURING THE SHOOT

  • Free Group Shoots is a ‘G'-rated group. Please insure that all poses and props used are G-rated and not suggestive or inappropriate.
  • The models at the group shoots will be both male and female of varied ages and ethnicity. Please be willing to shoot any model that comes to you, and please shoot each model fairly.
  • It helps to remember who you shoot with. One suggestion is to take your first picture of each model holding their name card (which each model is asked to bring).
  • A good rule of thumb is to spend about 10-15 minutes with each model.
  • If you need to take a break, just tell the models in your line that you need a short break.
  • Models generally bring their own props, but you are also welcome to bring props if desired.

 

AFTER THE SHOOT

  • Please post your images (or at least a sampler) on the Texas Models and Talent Forum under the topic heading of “Group Shoot / Test Shoot Images ” within a few days of the shoot and no later than 30 days after a shoot. You are also welcome to provide a link to galleries on your website.
  • The intent of the group shoot is to provide a ‘free sample' to the models. Please post at least 2-3 images for each model but feel free to post more if you want to.
  • If asked, please send 2-3 high resolution images to each model. You are never under any obligation to provide more than 2-3 high-resolution images to any one model from any one shoot, although you may choose to provide more. If you are asked for more than you want to provide, refer them to the model's group shoot handout. Please contact the Group Shoot Committee if you have any problems.
  • You are under no obligation to provide models full resolutions images beyond 60 days after a shoot.
  • Photos from the shoot may be used within your portfolios online with the stipulation that they may not be used on or in conjunction with sites that feature adult material (e.g., Models Mayhem, etc.).
