FREE GROUP SHOOTTM

Sponsored by the Texas Models & Talent Forum

WELCOME!

Welcome to our FREE GROUP SHOOT! Please keep this handy for future reference. Hopefully it will help you prepare for the shoot and make you aware of the shoot process and expectations.

BEFORE THE SHOOT – PREPARE!

·         Outfits: If there is a theme to the monthly shoot, have an outfit or two in that theme. Have a few outfits or looks that you would like to have pictures taken in. It is helpful to try on outfits in advance to coordinate jewelry and hair, and to make sure they fit (esp. kids). This is a G rated group so please dress accordingly.

·         Posing: While regular smiling shots are nice, they aren't as interesting as a portfolio with a variety of expressions, poses and props. Not sure how to pose? Stand in front of a mirror and practice!

·         Bring: Props- anything and everything works as a prop! Have a model bag ready with hair brush, powder, pins, etc... A notebook or something to write names and contact info of photographers and other talent. If you have business cards, please bring them too! Bring something to drink or eat in case there are no places to buy food. Most importantly, bring patience and your great smile! One chaperon is welcome but friends, pets (unless they are talent too), and bad attitudes are not.

·         Communicate: If we do not hear from you within 3 days of the shoot invitation, we will reluctantly give your spot to another person. If you cannot attend, will be late, cannot find the location, or whatever, please let us know. We would love to see you, please make the effort to let us know you are serious.

·         Who are you? Make yourself a nameplate to carry around so that the first picture a photographer takes of you shows the nameplate, so you are easily identifiable. It can be a fancy nameplate or something as simple as folding a piece of paper in half and writing your name on it. Just be sure your nameplate doesn’t blow away!

·         The night before. Know where you are going, have everything ready to put in the car, and get enough sleep.

THE BIG DAY

·         How is the weather? If it is questionable, check the forum or your private messages on the forum for shoot updates and possible cancellations. Rain in your area may not mean rain at the location, and a little drizzle doesn’t scare us away.

·         How do you look? If there is anything that needs cover-up, cover it up! Come dressed to shoot.

·         Be prompt! If you are running late or cannot make it, please call: 512.826.5394

·         Check in with the Group Shoot Committee (the person with the clipboard). The GSC member will be able to tell you who is shooting and point you in the direction of the photographers. If you have any questions or problems, the GSC members are your friends.

THINGS TO KNOW

·         Do not sign any releases! Signing a release gives away your right to control your image and where it can be published / used. This shoot is a TFP, which means both the photographer and talent can use the images for their self promotion freely, but nothing else. If you are asked to sign something, please let a GSC member know!

·         Be prepared to change discreetly in your car. Most places don’t have public changing rooms although there are restrooms.

·         You are responsible for your own belongings, makeup, clothes, and personal needs. Other talents are always happy to help, so if you find out you don’t have something, please ask others.

·         Photographers are people too. Please understand they get tired and will need breaks. Each photographer will have a different method of shooting talent and the amount of time they spend with each person will vary but should be about 3-15 minutes. If you are interested in shooting with a photographer, ask them if they are taking names, a line, or just shooting talent at random. If you arrive late, you may find that photographers using a list may no longer be accepting names.

·         Use time wisely. Put your name on a list, or wait in line, or maybe both! Network while you are waiting. Whatever you are doing, have a good time!

·         One outfit per photographer. If you would like the same photographer to shoot you again in another outfit, please line up at again.

·         Children get tired too. Please don’t force them to shoot if they don’t want to shoot. It should always be a fun experience for them.

·         The shoots last about 2-3 hours. You should be able to shoot with 2-3 photographers in this time.

·         If there is a line or list, each person and name is ONE person. If you are in place for three people, you need to let everyone know you are in place for three people. Please write down the names of everyone in your group that will shoot on a list.

·         If you are bringing a minor (anyone under 18), you must stay with (all of) them at all times!

YOUR PICTURES

·         Pictures from each photographer will be posted on the forum. They will not be delivered or emailed to you so it is essential that you keep track of the postings. You can download your photos on the forum by right clicking on a picture or by a link (if provided) to the photographer’s website.

·         You should get a minimum of 2-3 photos of yourself from each photographer you shot with, and not all your images. Portfolios should never include more than 1-2 photos of any outfit. Processing time for photos is extremely time consuming so please be patient and allow the photographers up to 4 weeks after a shoot to post your photos. If you have not received your photos by that time, please contact the GSC at the email below with your name, the name of the photographer and the month of the shoot.

·         Please contact the photographer no later than two months of a shoot to request the full resolution of any photo of yourself that has been published on the forum. Photographers tend to shoot thousands of images in any given month and may delete images after a few months.

·         These shoots are intended to be a sampling and not a full fledged photo shoot. The photographers will pick a few images they consider your best photos and publish them. If you would like more photos of yourself, please contact the photographer directly to schedule a formal shoot. Photographer rates vary. Photographers can also be hired for weddings, family portraits, Holiday photos, Senior Portraits, parties and many other occasions.

·         Always remember to credit the photographer if you use their photo in your portfolio. And please do not alter or crop any images without photographer permission.
